Austin 7 Route across Africa

In 1968, Brian Milton fell in love with a girl called Fiona Campbell who lived in South Africa. She agreed to marry him and he resolved to drive a 1937 Austin 7 Ruby called Alexa from London across Europe, the Sahara Desert and the tropical Congo to claim his bride. The car didn’t make it to South Africa and died in the Congo, but a great many adventures occurred.

He began his trip in London on November 13, 1968, crossing Europe and taking a ferry from Spain to Morocco. Below is the map of his route through Africa. Alexa died in Mungbere in the Congo on February 7, 1969, only 300 miles away from what at that time (prior to the rise of Idi Amin) was the relative safety of Uganda.
